Relation between smoking and visual processing in bipolar disorder

Milena E. C. Oliveira et al.

Summary: The study found that smokers performed better in color discrimination compared to BPD patients, while BPD smokers had greater difficulty in distinguishing color variations, presenting diffuse color vision impairments. This highlights a possible relationship between smoking and BPD in color discrimination and stresses the importance of understanding the diffuse effects of this relationship.

Retinal electroretinogram features can detect depression state and treatment response in adults: A machine learning approach

Thomas Schwitzer et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of signal processing and machine learning tools on PERG in the diagnosis and follow-up of MDD. The results showed that by extracting time/frequency features from PERG time series and analyzing them using a statistical model, it is possible to differentiate MDD patients from controls and measure treatment response.

Retinal ganglion cell dysfunction is correlated with disturbed visual cognition in schizophrenia patients with visual hallucinations

Florent Bernardin et al.

Summary: Our study found a link between retinal dysfunction and impaired visual processing in patients with schizophrenia, especially those with visual hallucinations. The group with visual hallucinations showed poorer visual cognition, and there were correlations between the amplitudes of the P50 and N95 waves and visual cognition. These results support the association between retinal anomalies and visual cognition in schizophrenia.

Discriminative Power of EEG-Based Biomarkers in Major Depressive Disorder: A Systematic Review

Claudia Greco et al.

Summary: Existing studies have shown that EEG-based biomarkers are effective in discriminating between depressed and healthy subjects. However, further research is needed to investigate the causal link between EEG measures and depressive subtypes, and to address methodological issues in order to enhance future research in this field.
