Atlas of lesion locations and postsurgical seizure freedom in focal cortical dysplasia: A MELD study

Konrad Wagstyl et al.

Summary: The study revealed that FCDs are unevenly distributed across the cerebral cortex and different lesion locations have significant impact on surgical outcomes. Lesions in the temporal and occipital lobes tend to be larger than frontal lobe lesions, leading to varying rates of seizure freedom post surgery.

Children with seizures and radiological diagnosis of focal cortical dysplasia: can drug-resistant epilepsy be predicted earlier?

Ido Ben Zvi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the proportion of pediatric patients with FCD who develop drug-resistant epilepsy and evaluates post-operative outcomes. The results suggest that most children with FCD and epilepsy will develop drug resistance and may be considered for epilepsy surgery. The correlation between MRI and ictal EEG localization and age at onset are the main predictors of post-operative outcomes.

Spatiotemporal distribution and age of seizure onset in a pediatric epilepsy surgery cohort with cortical dysplasia

Natrujee Wiwattanadittakul et al.

Summary: This study investigated the association of lesion volume and location with age of seizure onset in pediatric patients with CD undergoing epilepsy surgery. Larger CD lesions were associated with earlier onset epilepsy, with CD commonly occurring within the DMN and Limbic network. The percentage of CD overlapping the motor cortex correlated with earlier seizure onset.

Post-Surgical Outcome and Its Determining Factors in Patients Operated on With Focal Cortical Dysplasia Type II-A Retrospective Monocenter Study

Attila Racz et al.

Summary: Resective epilepsy surgery in patients with FCD II results in excellent outcomes at both 12-month and long-term follow-ups, with complete lesion resection and absence of FTBTCS prior to surgery associated with better prognosis. Positive family history for epilepsy has limited influence on long-term outcomes.
