Variations in terrestrial oxygen sources under climate change

Lei Ding et al.

Summary: This study investigates the temporal and spatial variations in terrestrial oxygen sources based on observations and simulations. The results indicate that the terrestrial ecosystem is the largest source of atmospheric oxygen, primarily located in tropical regions. However, there are non-oxygen-producing lands in high latitudes and around the deserts of Central Asia. Long-term analysis suggests that anthropogenic activities and climate change are responsible for the variations in terrestrial oxygen sources. By 2100, more oxygen will be produced from low-middle latitudes, while high latitudes will serve as a larger oxygen sink.

Electronic structure of superconducting nickelates probed by resonant photoemission spectroscopy

Zhuoyu Chen et al.

Summary: The discovery of infinite-layer nickelate superconductors has generated significant interest. This study uses spectroscopy and theoretical calculations to reveal differences in electronic structure between nickelates and cuprates, confirming the presence of Mott-Hubbard electronic structure and identifying a correlation between superconducting transition temperature and oxygen 2p hybridization.

Superconductivity in infinite-layer nickelate La1-xCaxNiO2 thin films

Shengwei Zeng et al.

Summary: Superconductivity is observed in infinite-layer Ca-doped LaNiO2 thin films and their phase diagram is constructed. Unlike other nickelates, the undoped and underdoped films are entirely insulating, while a superconducting dome is observed in the overdoped regime. The Hall coefficient also changes at low temperature for highly doped samples.

Doping evolution of the Mott-Hubbard landscape in infinite-layer nickelates

Berit H. Goodge et al.

Summary: The recent discovery of superconductivity in Nd0.8Sr0.2NiO2 has led to questions about the underlying electronic structure hierarchy. By using locally resolved electron energy-loss spectroscopy, the Mott-Hubbard character of Nd1-xSrxNiO2 was directly probed, revealing evidence of a multiband electronic structure in the superconducting infinite-layer nickelates.

Nickelate Superconductivity without Rare-Earth Magnetism: (La,Sr)NiO2

Motoki Osada et al.

Summary: Through material optimization, a significant portion of the La1-xSrxNiO2 phase diagram can enter the realm of superconductivity, with a maximum onset temperature of approximately 9 K at x = 0.20. An unexpected indication of a superconducting ground state was also observed in undoped LaNiO2. Combining the results of different rare-earth elements in the NiO2 system reveals a generalized superconducting dome characterized by systematic shifts in unit cell volume and electron-hole populations across the lanthanides.

Summary: H-1 NMR measurements were conducted on powdered Nd0.85Sr0.15NiO2 samples after hydrogen annealing. The results show short-range glassy antiferromagnetic ordering of magnetic moments at low temperatures, indicating strong electron correlations in bulk Nd0.85Sr0.15NiO2.

Magnetic excitations in infinite-layer nickelates

H. Lu et al.

Summary: The discovery of superconductivity in infinite-layer nickelates brings us closer to a material class similar to cuprate superconductors. Measurements of magnetic excitations in these nickelates showed that undoped NdNiO2 possesses a branch of dispersive excitations with a bandwidth of approximately 200 milli-electron volts.

Orbital and spin character of doped carriers in infinite-layer nickelates

M. Rossi et al.

Summary: The discovery of superconductivity in Nd1-xSrxNiO2 has sparked interest in the field, particularly regarding how the electronic structure evolves with hole doping. Using x-ray absorption spectroscopy and resonant inelastic x-ray scattering, researchers investigated the doping-dependent electronic structure and found that doped holes are mainly introduced into Ni 3d states. Comparing the data to atomic multiplet calculations, they concluded that the features observed in the XAS are consistent with a d(8) spin-singlet state in the 3d(x2-y2) orbitals.
