Neuronal regulation of innate lymphoid cell responses

Hiroshi Yano et al.

Summary: The immune system and peripheral nervous system surveil vital organs through various sensory mechanisms. How these two sensory systems integrate signals to orchestrate host responses remains incomplete. Recent research has shown how neurotrophic factors and neuronally derived factors regulate the functions of innate lymphoid cells (ILCs), establishing the neuro-ILC axis as a crucial component of broader neuro-immune interactions. Neurons also express receptors for many cytokines produced by ILCs, suggesting bidirectional neuro-immune interactions in regulating tissue homeostasis and inflammation.

Neuromedin U promotes human type 2 immune responses

Yuan Ye et al.

Summary: This study investigated the expression of neuromedin U (NmU) in human blood and airways, and its receptors in human immune cells. The results showed that NmU was found in both blood and airways, with higher concentrations in the latter. The NmU receptor 1 (NmUR1) was expressed by most human immune cells, especially type 2 cells, and its expression was upregulated in lung-resident and activated type 2 cells. NmU was found to induce type 2 cytokine production and cell migration in type 2 lymphocytes, including eosinophils, and enhance the type 2 immune response to other stimuli.

Non-redundant functions of group 2 innate lymphoid cells

Katja J. Jarick et al.

Summary: This article investigates the role of innate lymphoid cells (ILCs) in protective immunity. Using a mouse model specific to ILCs, researchers found that ILC2s have non-redundant functions during steady state and disease, and they interact with adaptive immune cells to organize the immune system.

NOD2 drives early IL-33-dependent expansion of group 2 innate lymphoid cells during Crohn's disease-like ileitis

Carlo De Salvo et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that the increase of ILC2 in the early stages of intestinal diseases like Crohn's disease is associated with the NOD2 protein and the IL-33/ST2 signaling pathway.

The ChAT-acetylcholine pathway promotes group 2 innate lymphoid cell responses and anti-helminth immunity

Coco Chu et al.

Summary: ILC2s up-regulate ChAT and express AChRs after infection or treatment, with ACh administration promoting cytokine production and helminth expulsion. Deficiency of ChAT in ILC2s leads to impaired immunity.
