Summary: Deoxygenation in the North Pacific immediately after the retreat of the Cordilleran ice sheet was shown to be linked with volcanic activity, suggesting that coupling between the atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere and solid-Earth systems can drive biogeochemical change.
