Spin Waves and Magnetic Exchange Hamiltonian in CrSBr

Allen Scheie et al.

Summary: An experimental study is conducted to determine the magnetic exchange Hamiltonian and bulk magnon spectrum of CrSBr, an air-stable 2D van der Waals semiconducting magnet. The study confirms the A-type antiferromagnetic order using single crystal neutron diffraction and measures magnon dispersions using inelastic neutron scattering. The fitted exchange Hamiltonian enables theoretical predictions, such as the presence of chiral magnon edge modes in a spin-orbit enhanced CrSBr heterostructure.

Multi-domain ferromagnetic resonance in magnetic van der Waals crystals CrI3 and CrBr3

Xi Shen et al.

Summary: The magnetization dynamics of CrI3 and CrBr3 were investigated using broadband ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) techniques, revealing the significant influence of multi-domain structures on the magnetic dynamics properties. Additionally, the linewidths of FMR spectra in CrI3 and CrBr3 were found to be dominated by magnetic inhomogeneous broadening.

Highly anisotropic excitons and multiple phonon bound states in a van der Waals antiferromagnetic insulator

Kyle Hwangbo et al.

Summary: This study reports the observation of excitons coupled to zigzag antiferromagnetic order in the layered antiferromagnetic insulator NiPS3, with narrow photoluminescence linewidth and near-unity linear polarization. The suppression of photoluminescence with reduced sample thickness, consistent with the calculated bandgap of NiPS3, indicates the potential of NiPS3 as a 2D platform for exploring magneto-exciton physics with strong correlations.

Magnetic Order and Symmetry in the 2D Semiconductor CrSBr

Kihong Lee et al.

Summary: The discovery of ferromagnetic ordering in monolayers of CrSBr, as well as the antiferromagnetic coupling in multilayers, highlights the unique magnetic properties of this 2D material. The Neel temperature of CrSBr increases with decreasing layer number, setting it apart from other 2D magnets. These findings introduce CrSBr as an exciting 2D magnetic semiconductor with potential applications in magnetic-electronic coupling and toroidal moments.

Spin-induced linear polarization of photoluminescence in antiferromagnetic van der Waals crystals

Xingzhi Wang et al.

Summary: This study successfully demonstrates the optical detection of Neel vector orientation in the van der Waals antiferromagnet NiPS3, and reveals a strong correlation between photoluminescence polarization and spin orientation in the crystal. By applying an in-plane magnetic field, manipulation of the photoluminescence polarization is achieved.

Interlayer electronic coupling on demand in a 2D magnetic semiconductor

Nathan P. Wilson et al.

Summary: Interlayer hybridization in 2D van der Waals materials can change their properties, such as the coupling in CrSBr which can be changed by switching the magnetic order. The stacking of monolayers of 2D materials can introduce new properties, like moire bands and highly correlated electronic states.
