Aligned 2D carbon nanotube liquid crystals for wafer-scale electronics

Katherine R. Jinkins et al.

Summary: Semiconducting carbon nanotubes collected at a liquid/liquid interface self-organize into two-dimensional nematic liquid crystals that globally align with flow and can be transferred onto substrates to generate dense arrays aligned within +/- 6 degrees. The alignment and uniformity of the transferred assemblies enable field-effect transistors with exceptional on-state current density and low variation, showing promise for commercial semiconductor electronics.
