Bridging the gap between atomically thin semiconductors and metal leads

Xiangbin Cai et al.

Summary: Researchers have developed a method to achieve nearly barrier-free electrical contacts between atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenide semiconductors and metal leads. This method increases the efficiency of carrier injection and exhibits robust ohmic behaviors across a wide temperature range. The improved performance of field-effect transistors is reflected in the low contact resistance, high field-effect mobility, and prominent transport characteristics at cryogenic temperatures. This method also allows for the local manipulation of atomic structures and electronic properties for device design.
