Expanding Bipolar X-Ray Structure After the 2006 Eruption of RS Oph

R. Montez et al.

Summary: We report on the detection and analysis of extended X-ray emission from the 2006 eruption of the recurrent nova RS Oph. The emission suggests a bipolar flow with specific characteristics and expansion rate. This discovery implies the presence of a mechanism that collimates ejecta away from the equatorial plane and allows for free expansion into the cavity shaped by a previous eruption.

The 2021 outburst of the recurrent nova RS Ophiuchi observed in X-rays by the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory: a comparative study

K. L. Page et al.

Summary: This study investigates the extensive X-ray data sets of the recurrent nova RS Oph between 2006 and 2021, as well as limited data from 1985. The study finds that the hard X-rays following the last two eruptions are similar, but the early supersoft source in 2021 is less variable and fainter compared to 2006. However, a quasi-periodic oscillation consistent with the 2006 data is observed in the 0.3-1 keV light curves from 2021. The X-ray spectra from 2021 are featureless, while the 2006 spectra show evidence of superimposed ionized absorption edges.

Estimating Distances from Parallaxes. V. Geometric and Photogeometric Distances to 1.47 Billion Stars in Gaia Early Data Release 3

C. A. L. Bailer-Jones et al.

Summary: Stellar distances are essential in astrophysics, and the publication of 1.47 billion stellar parallaxes from Gaia significantly contributes to this field. Despite challenges with faint or distant stars, a probabilistic approach using a three-dimensional model of the Galaxy has been developed to estimate geometric and photogeometric distances. Photogeometric estimates generally show higher accuracy and precision compared to geometric distances, especially for stars with poor parallaxes, and are provided in a publicly available catalog.
