Identification of Veratrum Species in Pimacao Based on ITS2 Sequences and Steroidal Alkaloids by a Pseudo-Targeted Metabolomics Method

Qinwei Lu et al.

Summary: This study establishes an effective identification method for species of Veratrum in Pimacao by utilizing ITS2 sequences and metabolomics methods. Two distinct subspecies in V. mengzeanum are reinforced and a new subspecies is collected in China for the first time. Non-targeted and pseudo-targeted analysis are used to identify steroidal alkaloids as potential markers for species differentiation. Statistical differences are found between subspecies of V. mengtzeanum and populations of V. taliense, V. mengtzeanum, and V. stenophyllum.

A highly sensitive quantification method for 12 plant toxins in human serum using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry with a quick solid-phase extraction technique

Masaru Taniguchi et al.

Summary: A highly sensitive quantification method using LC/MS/MS was developed for simultaneous analysis of 12 plant toxins in human serum. The method demonstrated excellent linearity, accuracy, precision, and sensitivity in validation studies. Application of this method to model samples confirmed its practicality for prompt decision-making in accidental poisonings involving toxic plants.
