Phenolic acid and amino acid composition of Ethiopian Chaya (Cnidoscolus chayamansa)

Melese Temesgen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the phenolic acid and amino acid composition of chaya leaf and stem samples, and finds that chaya contains high amounts of phenolic acids and amino acids. The deep green chaya leaf has the highest amino acid content, while the chaya stem has the lowest. Therefore, chaya leaf may be an important food resource rich in amino acids and essential antioxidants.

Chaya Leaf Decreased Triglycerides and Improved Oxidative Stress in Subjects With Dyslipidemia

Martha Guevara-Cruz et al.

Summary: This study found that consumption of Chaya for 6 weeks led to a significant decrease in serum triglyceride concentration, an increase in plasma antioxidant activity and polyphenol concentration, a reduction in the oxidative stress marker MDA, and an increase in the antioxidant enzyme CAT expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells in participants with dyslipidemia. These results demonstrate that Chaya has hypotriglyceridemic and antioxidant effects in subjects with dyslipidemia.
