First report on the Annona exsucca DC. Essential oil and in silico identification of potential biological targets of its major compounds

Marcia Moraes Cascaes et al.

Summary: The study extracted and analyzed the essential oil of Annona exsucca DC. or Rollinia exsucca, finding sesquiterpene hydrocarbons as the predominant compounds in the March sample and monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes as dominant compounds in the September sample. Computational methods showed that some major compounds may have antimicrobial and anticancer activities.

Synergic Antioxidant Effects of the Essential Oil Component γ-Terpinene on High-Temperature Oil Oxidation

Fabio Mollica et al.

Summary: The synergic antioxidant activity of gamma-terpinene with alpha-tocopherol and its synthetic analogues was studied. Gamma-terpinene enhanced the protecting activity of alpha-tocopherol and its analogues, but had no effect on other antioxidants. Mechanistic studies showed that gamma-terpinene generated hydroperoxyl radicals, which were responsible for reducing tocopheroxyl radicals.

Formicidal activity of essential oils of Myrcia lundiana chemotypes on Acromyrmex balzani

Carlisson R. Melo et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the formicidal activity of essential oils from two Myrcia lundiana chemotypes on Acromyrmex balzani ants, finding that the major compounds were toxic to the ants. Isopulegol showed the highest toxicity, while the citral chemotype exhibited a more persistent repellent effect. The essential oils show potential for developing new insecticides for leaf-cutting ant management.

Biological properties of terpinolene evidenced by in silico, in vitro and in vivo studies: A systematic review

Isis Oliveira Menezes et al.

Summary: Terpinolene has been found to exhibit biological effects such as antioxidant, larvicide, and insecticide activities, highlighting its pharmacological potential. However, further research is needed to elucidate its mechanism of action and potential therapeutic benefits through preclinical and clinical trials, as the in vivo efficacy and safety of this compound have been poorly evaluated. Nevertheless, due to its diverse range of biological activities, terpinolene is likely to attract scientific interest and contribute to the development of new products for therapeutic and environmental applications.

Drying Effects on Chemical Composition and Antioxidant Activity of Lippia thymoides Essential Oil, a Natural Source of Thymol

Lidiane Diniz do Nascimento et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the influence of drying Lippia thymoides leaves at different temperatures in an oven on the yield, composition, and DPPH radical scavenging activity of the essential oils. Thymol was identified as the major compound, with fresh leaves showing higher antioxidant activity. The Midilli model was the most suitable for describing the drying kinetics of the leaves.

Chemical Composition and Antioxidant Activity of Essential Oils from Eugenia patrisii Vahl, E. punicifolia (Kunth) DC., and Myrcia tomentosa (Aubl.) DC., Leaf of Family Myrtaceae

Celeste de Jesus Pereira Franco et al.

Summary: Essential oils were extracted from Eugenia patrisii, E. punicifolia, and Myrcia tomentosa using hydrodistillation, with major volatile constituents identified by GC/MS. The antioxidant capacity of the oils was determined through DPPH and TEAC assays, showing variation between different specimens and collection periods. The EOs, especially from E. punicifolia, exhibited higher antioxidant activity in DPPH assays compared to TEAC.
