Recent Progress in Saikosaponin Biosynthesis in Bupleurum

Chun Sui et al.

Summary: Chaihu is a popular traditional Chinese medicine, with saikosaponins being one of its main active components. Recent research has identified key enzyme genes involved in SS biosynthesis, showing that biosynthesis is influenced by environmental factors and plant genus. Transcriptional regulation plays an important role in controlling SS biosynthesis.

Chromosome-level reference genome assembly provides insights into aroma biosynthesis in passion fruit (Passiflora edulis)

Dongna Ma et al.

Summary: By incorporating PacBio long HiFi reads and Hi-C technology, a chromosome-level genome assembly of passion fruit was achieved. The highly repetitive genome contains 39,309 protein-coding genes, with 93.48% functionally annotated. Genome evolution analysis revealed multiple duplication events, and rapidly expanded gene families were associated with the formation of featured flavors.

The Influence of Environmental Conditions on Secondary Metabolites in Medicinal Plants: A Literature Review

Poonam Pant et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the accumulation of secondary metabolites in medicinal plants under different environmental stresses. Environmental factors have significant impacts on the physiological and biochemical responses of medicinal plants, as well as the secondary metabolic processes. Understanding how individual environmental variables influence the production and accumulation of secondary metabolites can aid in the optimization of cultivation techniques to maximize the quality and quantity of secondary metabolites in plants.
