Design, synthesis, and antiproliferative evaluation of novel longifolene-derived tetraline pyrimidine derivatives with fluorescence properties

Qing-Min Li et al.

Summary: Eighteen novel longifolene-derived tetralin pyrimidine compounds were designed and synthesized using survivin as the target. These compounds exhibited promising antiproliferative activities and low cytotoxicity towards normal liver cells. The study also established a 3D-QSAR model and conducted molecular docking to investigate the structure-activity relationship and interaction mode between compounds and survivin protein.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

In Vitro Phytochemical Screening, Cytotoxicity Studies of Curcuma longa Extracts with Isolation and Characterisation of Their Isolated Compounds

Madhuri Grover et al.

Summary: The Curcuma longa plant is rich in diverse phytochemical constituents, with polar solvents proving more versatile in extraction. Ethanol extracts exhibited strong cytotoxic potential against oral cancer cells, while bisdemethoxycurcumin showed potential against prostate cancer cells with safer effects on healthy cells compared to doxorubicin.

Phytochemical Screening, Antioxidant Assay and Cytotoxic Profile for Different Extracts of Chrysopogon zizanioides Roots

Madhuri Grover et al.

Summary: The study confirmed that the ethanolic extract of vetiver root has significant cytotoxic effects against oral cancer cells, with no toxicity to healthy cells, as well as high antioxidant activity. The ethanolic extract contains a variety of potentially active compounds, such as Khusenic acid and Ascorbic acid, which may have further cytotoxic activity.

Chrysopogon zizanioides-a review on its pharmacognosy, chemical composition and pharmacological activities

Madhuri Grover et al.

Summary: Vetiver is a traditional plant with versatile applications, and this review compiled the latest information on its phytochemistry, pharmacology, and traditional uses. Traditional utilities of vetiver have been validated in disease-based pharmacological models, but more studies are needed to isolate active constituents and establish their mechanism of action. Additionally, the development of novel techniques for oil extraction is necessary for further exploration of its biological utilities, while attention should be paid to preventing soil erosion during cultivation and harvesting.
