Ternstroenol F: a new pentacyclic triterpenoid saponin isolated from the Australian rainforest plant Ternstroemia cherryi

Summary: A detailed phytochemical investigation of Ternstroemia cherryi fruits led to the discovery and identification of a minor metabolite, ternstroenol F, which has a barrigenol-like terpenoid backbone. The unique feature of this metabolite is an ester bond formed between the 2(E)-4(Z)-6(E)-decatrienoic acid and the C-22 position of the oleanane backbone. Ternstroenol F showed inhibitory effects on NO inhibition, cell viability, and TNF-alpha release in RAW 264.7 macro-phages, with IC50 values of 0.23, 0.81, and 1.84 μM, respectively.
