iTRAQ-based quantitative proteomics analysis of defense responses triggered by the pathogen Rhizoctonia solani infection in rice

Feng Zhi-ming et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the host proteins responsive to the soil-borne necrotrophic fungus Rhizoctonia solani using an iTRAQ-based quantitative proteomic approach. Our results showed that these proteins play important roles in cell redox homeostasis, carbohydrate metabolism, phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, and host defense against R. solani. Interestingly, R. solani may inhibit the host photosynthetic system and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis to facilitate infection and colonization.
