Drastic influence of amide functionality and alkyl chain length dependent physical, thermal and structural properties of new pyridinium-amide cation based biodegradable room temperature ionic liquids

Supriy Verma et al.

Summary: A series of new room-temperature ionic liquids (RTILs) based on biodegradable pyridinium carboxamide cation and conformationally flexible NTf2 anion have been synthesized. The introduction of amide functionality on pyridinium cation moiety drastically changes the thermophysical properties and plays a crucial role in biodegradability. The dependence of thermal and physical properties on alkyl chain length, as well as the conformational dynamics of NTf2 anion, have been studied and correlated with experimental observations.

A novel and sustainable technique to precipitate vanadium from vanadium-rich solutions via efficient ultrasound irradiation

Bo Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel and environmentally friendly technique of using ultrasound to enhance the ammonium salt precipitation process of vanadium was proposed. The results showed that the ultrasound precipitation method can achieve similar vanadium precipitation rate and purity compared to the regular precipitation method, while significantly reducing the reaction time and ammonium salt consumption. The products obtained by ultrasound precipitation method also exhibited more uniform particle size distribution and regular crystal shape.

Separation of vanadium and iron from the steelmaking slag convertor using Aliquat 336 and D2EHPA: Effect of the aqueous species and the extractant type

Sina Shakibania et al.

Summary: A selective process for separating vanadium and iron from steelmaking slag is proposed in this study. The process involves leaching, cementation, and solvent extraction stages. The experimental results show that D2EHPA and Aliquat 336 are effective extractants for vanadium extraction with different oxidation states. The study also reveals the extraction mechanism of vanadium through both anion and cation exchange reactions.

Mechanism and kinetics study on ultrasound assisted leaching of gallium and zinc from corundum flue dust

Wei Ding et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the effect and mechanism of ultrasound on the leaching of gallium and zinc from corundum flue dust (CFD). The results showed that ultrasound could significantly increase the leaching efficiencies of gallium and zinc. The enhancement of ultrasound was attributed to the breaking of particle agglomerates, improving sulfuric acid diffusion, and accelerating the reaction between sulfuric acid and amorphous silicate.

Review on the mineral processing in ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents

Guocai Tian et al.

Summary: Mineral processing is an important method of resource utilization, and the use of traditional reagents may lead to various problems. Ionic liquids and deep eutectic solvents, known as green solvents, have been applied in mineral flotation and extraction of valuable metals. Studies have shown that they can effectively float difficult-to-float minerals and make progress in green leaching. However, there are still existing problems that need to be addressed. Further research and optimization are expected to develop them into a new energy-efficient and environmentally friendly mineral processing technology.

C. Erust et al.

Summary: This study investigated the recovery of neodymium (Nd) and dysprosium (Dy) from spent NdFeB magnets, utilizing physical and hydrometallurgical approaches including leaching, precipitation, and solvent extraction. Various inorganic and organic reagents were tested for leaching, with di-2-ethylhexyl phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) showing higher efficiency than trihexyltetradecylphosphonium chloride (CYPHOS (R) IL101) in the extraction stage. Nd and Dy were successfully extracted with complete recovery from the optimized system.
