Summary: In this study, BiOI:Yb3+,Er3+/Bi2O4 direct Z-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts were successfully synthesized and showed significantly improved photocatalytic activity in the degradation of Ciprofloxacin and Rhodamine B. The 20%-BYE/BO sample exhibited the best photocatalytic activity, with a NIR-light degradation ratio of Ciprofloxacin that was 66 and 103 times higher than that of BO and BYE, respectively. The enhanced photoactivity was attributed to synergistic effects of upconversion and the direct Z heterojunction.

Summary: The huge interest in superhydrophobic surfaces is due to their potential engineering applications in various fields. However, there is a challenge in fabricating mechanically robust superhydrophobic surfaces and understanding their corrosion performance in aggressive conditions. In this study, a simple and eco-friendly method was used to fabricate mechanically durable superhydrophobic aluminum surfaces with self-cleaning properties. The coating parameters were optimized to achieve desirable properties, and the adhesion between the substrate and the coating was improved. The superhydrophobic behavior was attributed to the hierarchical micro-nano roughness and the presence of specific chemical groups. The corrosion resistance of the superhydrophobic aluminum surfaces was significantly higher than that of bare surfaces. The results showed that the fabricated superhydrophobic surfaces had excellent properties for various applications, including seawater applications.
