Production of phenylpropanoids and flavonolignans from glycerol by metabolically engineered Escherichia coli

Seon Young Park et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the production of two representative phenylpropanoids from glycerol by engineered Escherichia coli. By introducing different genes into E. coli strains, they successfully constructed strains capable of producing coniferyl alcohol and dihydroquercetin. Furthermore, by engineering signal peptides and conducting stepwise culture, they also showed the potential for production of other complex natural products from glycerol.

Acidic hydrolysis of astilbin and its application for the preparation of taxifolin from Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae

Xiao-Lin Qiu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the hydrolysis of astilbin to produce taxifolin, with results showing faster hydrolysis with higher HCl concentration and temperature. The activation energy of the reaction under 1 mol L-1 aq. HCl was calculated at 148.6 kJ mol(-1). The reaction successfully produced taxifolin from Rhizoma Smilacis Glabrae with a simple purification method leading to a purity of 97.5%.
