Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Emerging Role of Long Non-Coding RNAs in the Pathobiology of Glioblastoma

Omidvar Rezaei et al.

Summary: Glioblastoma is an aggressive diffuse kind of glioma, with poor survival rate and associated with genetic aberrations and somatic mutations. Studies have underscored the impact of long non-coding RNAs in glioblastoma, with certain lncRNAs playing key roles in the pathogenesis of the disease.

The Roles of Exosomes as Future Therapeutic Agents and Diagnostic Tools for Glioma

Xiaoben Wu et al.

Summary: Exosomes, as extracellular vesicles containing microRNAs, messenger RNA, and proteins, play a significant role in intercellular communication, making them potential candidates for delivering therapeutic agents and diagnostic tools for glioma.

The interaction between miRNAs/lncRNAs and Notch pathway in human disorders

Soudeh Ghafouri-Fard et al.

Summary: The Notch pathway plays a crucial role in cell proliferation, differentiation, development, and tissue homeostasis, and is also involved in regulating stem cell properties and cancer cell metastasis. Various long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) interact with the Notch signaling cascade, playing important functional roles in both cancer and non-neoplastic conditions.

Role of Long Non-Coding RNAs in Conferring Resistance in Tumors of the Nervous System

Soudeh Ghafouri-Fard et al.

Summary: Tumors of the nervous system can originate from various locations and have high mortality and morbidity rates. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a role in influencing the responsiveness of glioma/glioblastoma and neuroblastoma to chemotherapy, aiding in the design of more effective therapeutic regimens.

The Role of Exosomal miRNAs in Glioma: Biological Function and Clinical Application

Yirizhati Aili et al.

Summary: Gliomas are central nervous system tumors with poor prognosis, where exosomal miRNA plays a significant role in their occurrence, development, invasion, metastasis, and treatment resistance. Further systematic research on the association of exosomal miRNA in gliomas is needed for innovative diagnosis and treatment approaches.

Role of miRNAs and lncRNAs in hematopoietic stem cell differentiation

Soudeh Ghafouri-Fard et al.

Summary: Non-coding RNAs play diverse roles in the differentiation of hematopoietic cells, with long ncRNAs and miRNAs affecting transcription factors levels and contributing to the differentiation process. miRNAs such as miR-222, miR-10a, and lncRNAs like PU.1-AS are involved in hematopoietic stem cell differentiation, with manipulation of their expression having functional significance in cancer treatment and cell therapy. This paper provides a brief summary of the roles of miRNAs and lncRNAs in regulating hematopoietic stem cells.
