Structural anomaly detection based on probabilistic distance measures of transmissibility function and statistical threshold selection scheme

Wang-Ji Yan et al.

Summary: Transmissibility function (TF) is widely used in structural damage detection due to its robustness and a new statistical, data-driven damage detection algorithm is proposed in this study. The algorithm computes the probabilistic distance of TFs to detect structural anomalies and offers a statistically rigorous threshold selection scheme for detecting damage. Results show satisfactory performance in detecting and quantifying damage severity.

Identifying damage on a bridge using rotation-based Bridge Weigh-In-Motion

E. J. OBrien et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the application of Bridge Weigh-in-Motion systems for bridge condition assessment. A new method for detecting bridge damage using support rotation measurements is proposed. Results show that a rotation-based B-WIM system will continuously overestimate the weight of traversing vehicles in case of bridge damage.

Identify the stochastic dynamic load on a complex uncertain structural system

Shaoqing Wu et al.

Summary: The article proposes a novel load identification method capable of identifying stochastic Gaussian excitation on uncertain engineering structures, using stochastic Green's function and assuming uncertain system parameters as Gaussian random variables. The effectiveness of the method is verified through numerical simulation, and a standard framework is developed for application on complex engineering structures.

Summary: This research introduces a computer vision-based non-contact WIM system for accurately measuring tire deformation parameters and recognizing tire sidewall markings. Field experiments on concrete trucks showed that the system accurately estimated truck weights, demonstrating the potential of this cost-effective solution for vehicle WIM without the need for sensor installation.
