A Soft Material Flow Sensor for Micro Air Vehicles

Johan Sundin et al.

Summary: This article introduces a new concept of a soft material flow sensor based on elastic filament velocimetry, which meets the requirements for micro air vehicles. The sensor can be manufactured using common laboratory tools, operates with a simple circuit, and allows for sensitivity and bandwidth to be varied by modifying the ribbon's geometry and material properties.

Investigation of the atmospheric surface layer using a novel high-resolution sensor array

K. Y. Huang et al.

Summary: Representing land-atmosphere exchange processes as lower boundary conditions in numerical weather predictions is challenging due to the lack of understanding of heterogeneities in topography, land cover, stability, and their effects on flow field and scalar transport. Well-resolved flow measurements can offer insights into these processes, but the heterogeneous characteristics and scales separation make field measurements notoriously challenging.

An autonomous drone for search and rescue in forests using airborne optical sectioning

D. C. Schedl et al.

Summary: Autonomous drones have shown great potential in finding hidden persons in densely occluded forests during search and rescue missions. Through field experiments, it has been proven that these drones can adaptively sample and improve classification confidence, leading to quicker and more reliable detection of individuals. This technology also enables SAR operations in remote areas with unstable network coverage, ensuring effective communication with rescue teams.
