Lessons learned from vehicle collision accident of Dongguofenli Bridge: FE modeling and analysis

Wenbiao Sun et al.

Summary: Through high-resolution simulation models, the study successfully recreated a vehicle collision accident, highlighting the importance of cargo characteristics in bridge response and attributing bridge pier damage to direct impact with cargo that slipped off the truck. The analysis also revealed potential issues with the state-of-practice method for defining impact force in bridge design for vehicle impact resistance.

A crack detection method for underwater concrete structures using sensing-heating system with porous casing

Jiang Chen et al.

Summary: Cracks, as the most common defects in concrete structures, can decrease the bearing capacity, stiffness, and durability of engineering structures. Therefore, crack detection is crucial in concrete engineering. A novel crack detection method based on heat transfer theory was proposed for underwater concrete structures, using the difference in cooling rate of a heat source before and after cracking for crack identification. A temperature tracer system was designed for this method, and the effects of casing tube dimensions, porosity, and thermal conductivity on monitoring results were studied through numerical simulation and comparative tests of specimens. The results showed that this crack detection method was effective and feasible, with better identification effects achieved by using casing tubes with larger porosity and lower thermal conductivity.

A novel percussion-based method for multi-bolt looseness detection using one-dimensional memory augmented convolutional long short-term memory networks

Furui Wang et al.

Summary: In the past decade, percussion-based methods have shown advantages in detecting bolt looseness due to their low cost and ease of operation. However, they rely on manual feature extraction, lack validation in anti-noising and adaptability, and only consider single-bolt looseness, limiting their application scope.

ANALOG LEAST MEAN SQUARE ADAPTIVE FILTERING FOR SELF-INTERFERENCE CANCELLATION IN FULL DUPLEX RADIOS

Anh Tuyen Le et al.

Summary: In-band full duplex (IBFD) radio is a key technology for future wireless communication and radar applications, with a major challenge being to mitigate strong self-interference (SI) to ensure the residual SI falls below the receiver's noise floor. Radio frequency (RF) self-interference cancellation (SIC) is essential to prevent saturation of an IBFD receiver by SI. The analog least mean square (ALMS) adaptive filtering architecture is promising for RF SIC in IBFD radios, allowing for implementation with analog components and avoiding power-thirsty digital signal processing. The behavior, performance, and implementation of the ALMS loop are discussed, along with applications in various IBFD radios and future research directions.
