Diffuse optical reconstructions of functional near infrared spectroscopy data using maximum entropy on the mean

Summary: In this study, a nonlinear source localization method (MEM) was adapted for solving the inverse problem of diffuse optical tomography (DOT) reconstruction. The introduction of depth weighting strategy and the improvement of the model initialization method in the MEM framework resulted in more accurate and temporally precise DOT reconstructions. The results demonstrated that MEM provided better accuracy and robustness in low signal-to-noise ratio conditions, and showed more accurate reconstructions of hemoglobin concentrations compared to functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) results.
