Effect of Carbon Nanotube (CNT) Content on the Hardness, Wear Resistance and Thermal Expansion of In-Situ Reduced Graphene Oxide (rGO)-Reinforced Aluminum Matrix Composites

Peter Nyanor et al.

Summary: Aluminum matrix composites reinforced with rGO and hybrid of CNT and rGO were fabricated by solution coating powder metallurgy process. The reinforcements significantly increased the hardness and wear resistance of the composites. The hybrid CNT-rGO/Al composites exhibited higher hardness and wear resistance compared to rGO-reinforced composites.

Microstructural Evolution and Mechanical Properties of Multiwall Carbon Nanotubes Reinforced Titanium-Based Nanocomposites Developed by Spark Plasma Sintering

Avwerosuoghene Moses Okoro et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of MWCNT on the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of Ti6Al4V-based composites through dispersing different concentrations of MWCNT into the matrix and consolidating the materials using spark plasma sintering technique. The results showed that the addition and increase in concentration of MWCNT led to significant improvements in microstructural and phase changes, resulting in a substantial increase in microhardness, nanohardness, and elastic modulus.

Transformation of graphene nanoflakes into onion-like carbon during spark plasma sintering

Evgeniya Suslova et al.

Summary: Graphene nanoflakes (GNFs) were consolidated by spark plasma sintering (SPS) at 1100 degrees C and 30 MPa, characterized by TEM, BET and Raman spectroscopy. Oxidation surface treatment led to phase separation and functionalization, increasing oxygen content and eliminating graphene sheets and onion-like carbon (OLC) particles. Gas phase oxidation prevented pellet destruction, suggesting potential applications for carbon phase transformations using SPS.

Strong amorphous carbon prepared by spark-plasma sintering C60

Yingju Wu et al.

Summary: A series of amorphous carbon materials were synthesized by spark-plasma sintering fullerene C-60 at different temperatures in this study. These materials exhibited excellent mechanical properties, including high compressive strength, indentation hardness, and elastic recovery. The synthesized amorphous carbons showed superior performance compared to commercial isotropic graphite materials.

Study on Metallurgically Prepared Copper-Coated Carbon Fibers Reinforced Aluminum Matrix Composites

Meilian Gao et al.

Summary: The study focused on the preparation and characterization of electroless copper-coated carbon fibers reinforced aluminum composites. The microstructure observation revealed uniform distribution of fibers and the formation of an interfacial layer between the fiber and Al matrix. Mechanical properties such as Vickers hardness, tensile strength, and bending strength showed significant improvement due to the synergistic effect of dispersion, precipitation, and solution strengthening.

Graphene and graphene oxide for bio-sensing: General properties and the effects of graphene ripples

Gulsah Yildiz et al.

Summary: Graphene-based materials, especially graphene oxide, are gaining interest for biosensing applications due to their high signal output and excellent properties such as conductivity and reactivity. The presence of ripples on the graphene surface provides potential for enhanced capabilities. Research is focused on utilizing graphene for biosensing, with a particular emphasis on wearable sensors and the manipulation of intrinsic ripples. The review of current biosensors made from graphene oxide and discussion of ripple effects highlights the promising future opportunities in this field.
