STEM Characterization of Dislocation Loops in Irradiated FCC Alloys

Pengyuan Xiu et al.

Summary: In this study, a systematic methodology for imaging and analyzing dislocation loops in irradiated FCC alloys using STEM was demonstrated. The preferred choice of on-zone [001] STEM imaging was identified based on its accuracy and effectiveness compared to other techniques, and the effect of STEM collection angle on contrast formation of dislocation loops was investigated. The developed STEM-based technique can easily identify different types of dislocation loops in irradiated FCC-based materials and serves as a quick and convenient tool for such analyses.

The role of powder atomisation route on the microstructure and mechanical properties of hot isostatically pressed Inconel 625

Alessandro Sergi et al.

Summary: The characteristics and purity of powders significantly influence the properties of Ni-base superalloy parts produced through NNS PM HIP process. IN625 powders produced by different atomisation routes showed differences in microstructure and precipitates after HIPping. Among the four powders, PA HIPped IN625 exhibited the best balance of properties and matched that of wrought IN625 material.

Precipitation in proton- and ion-irradiated Alloy 625 Plus

Li-Jen Yu et al.

Summary: Alloy 625 Plus, a commercial Ni-based alloy, is being considered as a potential structural material for nuclear reactors. The study conducted long term thermal aging and ion irradiations to investigate its microstructural evolution. It was found that diffusional processes under proton irradiation lead to the formation of ordered phases like γ'', γ', Ni3Si, and Pt2Mo. The research also showed the steady state nanoscale patterning of γ'' and γ' phases, as well as the dependence of Pt2Mo-type phase formation on the precipitation of γ''.

A comparison study of void swelling in additively manufactured and cold-worked 316L stainless steels under ion irradiation

Li Jiang et al.

Summary: The void swelling in stress-relieved additively manufactured 316L stainless steel was found to be more severe than that in hot-isostatic pressed counterparts, attributed to a longer incubation period. Dislocation networks from cold-working can effectively suppress void swelling, while dislocation cell structures cannot.
