Co-strengthening of dislocations and precipitates in alumina-forming austenitic steel with cold rolling followed by aging

Qiuzhi Gao et al.

Summary: The microstructural evolutions of AFA steel after cold-rolled reductions and subsequent aging at 700 degrees C were studied. It was found that increased dislocations from cold rolling enhanced the volume fraction and refined the particle size of precipitates, but also accelerated the coarsening rate. Cold-rolled AFA steel aged for 2 hours exhibited excellent mechanical properties due to the synergistic strengthening of dislocations and precipitates.

Tailoring the tempered microstructure of a novel martensitic heat resistant steel G115 through prior cold deformation and its effect on mechanical properties

Jingwen Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper systematically investigated the influences of prior cold deformation and tempering time on the precipitation behavior, sub-structure evolution, and mechanical properties of a novel G115 martensitic heat resistant steel. The results showed that the deformation reduction and tempering time had significant effects on the precipitation behavior of secondary strengthening particles and the formation of subgrains, which played a crucial role in determining the tensile properties and micro-hardness. The optimal combination of mechanical properties could be achieved with a deformation reduction of 20% and a tempering time of 60 min, resulting in a considerable ductility and high strength.

Influence of precipitates evolutions in 8-ferrite and austenite matrix on mechanical properties of alumina-forming austenitic steel

Zhi Yuan et al.

Summary: The evolution of precipitates in alumina-forming austenitic steel during isothermal-aging was characterized, and its effect on the mechanical properties of the steel was assessed. The results showed that the size and volume fraction of precipitates increased with the duration of isothermal-aging. Delta-ferrite also increased significantly, which had a negative impact on the mechanical properties. The strength and hardness initially increased and then decreased with the extension of isothermal-aging time, while the elongation decreased.

Qiuzhi Gao et al.

Summary: The oxidation behavior and mechanism of as-received and 30% cold-rolled alumina-forming austenitic steel were studied. Both types of steel demonstrated improved high-temperature oxidation resistance due to the formation of dense Al2O3 oxide scale. Gradual spallation of outer scale led to the formation of continuous and dense alumina scale.

Enhancement of mechanical properties by repeated heat treatment in reduced activation ferritic/martensitic steel with Ta and Ti

Jin-Young Choi et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of heat treatment conditions on the microstructures and mechanical properties of Ta and Ti added reduced activation ferritic/martensitic (TaTi-RAFM) steel. It demonstrates that double-normalizing and double-tempering are effective methods for improving ductile-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) in TaTi-RAFM steel by controlling the precipitation of MX particles and refinement of M23C6 carbide. The results suggest that the improvement in DBTT is attributed to an increased fraction of MX precipitate and refinement of M23C6 carbide, which is confirmed by quantitative analysis of SEM micrographs.

Hot-deformation induced static recrystallization and nano-MX precipitation in a low activation martensitic steel

J. H. Zhou et al.

Summary: The study found that decreasing compression temperature leads to a decrease in static recrystallization degree, as well as a reduction in the sizes of grains, subgrains and MX carbides in low activation martensitic steel. This also results in an increase in hardness, mainly due to the decrease in temperature and the increase in nano precipitation content.

Assessment of the correlation between M23C6 precipitates and pitting corrosion resistance of 0Cr13 martensitic stainless steel

Yonggang Zhao et al.

Summary: The study explored the impact of M23C6 precipitates on the pitting behavior of 0Cr13 martensitic stainless steel, finding that the increasing Cr content in Cr-depleted regions hindered the effect of Cr deficiency in the passive film, ultimately enhancing the pitting corrosion resistance with increasing tempering temperature. The findings also showed that the low width and density of Cr-depleted regions reduced the intensity of pits on the steel surface.
