Enhanced strength-ductility synergy via novel bifunctional nano-precipitates in a high-entropy alloy

Liyuan Liu et al.

Summary: A new Ni-35(CoFe)(55)V5Nb5 high-entropy alloy with a novel bifunctional L-12-Ni3Nb nano-precipitate was developed to enhance the strength and ductility synergy of the alloy, showing high yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, and remarkable elongation. The novel nano-precipitates play a dual role in improving the alloy properties through precipitation strengthening and lowering the stacking fault energy for better work-hardening ability and plasticity.

Reaction mechanism between MgO crucible and AerMet100 steel during vacuum induction melting

Pengfei Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the reaction mechanism between AerMet100 steel and MgO refractory, and finds that the MgO crucible can affect the composition and inclusions of AerMet100 steel. The content of Si, Als, Mgs, and Ca in the liquid steel increases, and Al2O3 inclusions transform into MgO.Al2O3 spinel inclusions. Vacuum pressure of 50-100 Pa is more effective in controlling the composition and inclusions of AerMet100 steel.

The effect of Al/Ti ratio on the evolution of precipitates and their effects on mechanical properties for Ni35(CoCrFe)55AlxTi10-x high entropy alloys

Liyuan Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the evolution of Ni3(Al, Ti) precipitates and their effects on the mechanical properties in high entropy alloys. It is found that spherical precipitates within the grains act as effective barriers to dislocation slip, resulting in high strength. However, increasing the Al content reduces the volume fraction of the precipitates, leading to a decrease in yield strength. Al, Ti, and Ni segregate to the grain boundaries, forming L12 precipitates and Heusler phases, which affect the ductility of the alloy.

Numerical modeling and experimental validation of the effect of arc distribution on the as-solidified Ti64 ingot in vacuum arc remelting (VAR) process

E. Karimi-Sibaki et al.

Summary: This study proposes a numerical model that couples electromagnetic field and plasma arc with multiphase transport phenomena for the vacuum arc remelting (VAR) process. 3D simulations were performed to investigate the effects of different arc distributions under an axial magnetic field (AMF) on the flow patterns and melt pool morphology during the VAR process of a Titanium-based alloy. The simulation results demonstrate that different arc distributions result in different melt pool shapes.

Clustering, nano-scale precipitation and strengthening of steels

Zhiping Xiong et al.

Summary: Continuous innovations in design of advanced structural steels play a crucial role in the future progress of manufacturing, automotive and construction industries. Events at nano and atomic scales are essential in controlling steel strength, with strengths of 1-1.5 GPa realized in nano-scale precipitation strengthened steels. Modern characterization techniques allow for insight into mechanisms of solute atoms clustering, nano-precipitate formation, and interactions with dislocations contributing to strength.

Rubber-like behaviour and superelasticity of [001]-oriented FeNiCoAlNb single crystals containing γ′- and β-phase particles

Yu Chumlyakov et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates that one-step ageing leads to the formation of gamma'-phase particles in FeNiCoAlNb single crystals, while two-step ageing results in a structure containing both gamma'- and beta-phase particles. Different ageing methods affect the M-s temperature and reversible deformation, thus influencing the mechanical properties of the material.

Influence of the precipitates on the shape memory effect and superelasticity of the near?eutectoid Ti?Au?Fe alloy towards biomaterial applications

Wan-Ting Chiu et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the effects of Fe addition at various concentrations on near-eutectoid Ti-4Au alloys, achieving a stabilized ??phase at room temperature with 3 at.% Fe addition. The Ti-4Au-4Fe alloy exhibited optimized mechanical properties by balancing strength and ductility, demonstrated shape memory effect in Ti-4Au-3Fe alloy, and showed superelasticity in Ti-4Au-4Fe alloy. The Ti3Au precipitate amount increased with higher Fe concentration, allowing for tuning of mechanical properties in ternary Ti-4Au-xFe alloys with balanced performance achieved at 4 at.% Fe addition.
