Microstructure and tensile properties of chemically heterogeneous steel consisting of martensite and austenite

Ji Hoon Kim et al.

Summary: Chemical heterogeneity in steel, consisting of martensite and retained austenite, was achieved through intercritical annealing. This method allows for simultaneous improvement in strength and ductility, which are typically considered mutually exclusive. The heterogeneity is attributed to micro-scale and nano-scale features, such as different solid solution strengthening and Mn-enriched cementite transforming into austenite, leading to improved strength and enhanced ductility.

Microstructural evolution and strain hardening behavior of a novel two-stage warm rolled ultra-high strength medium Mn steel with heterogeneous structures

Yuming Zou et al.

Summary: A heterostructured medium Mn steel with duplex phases and multiple morphologies is fabricated by a novel two-stage warm rolling process, which exhibits excellent mechanical properties. The combination of the TRIP effect and HDI hardening contributes to the outstanding mechanical properties and strain hardening ability of the material.

Improved strength of a medium -Mn steel by V addition without sacrificing ductility

Tak Min Park et al.

Summary: By adding a micro-alloying element and forming precipitates, the steel exhibits higher strength without sacrificing ductility compared to steel without precipitates. The formation of precipitates changes the microstructure of the steel and enhances the strain hardening rate, leading to higher tensile strength.

A new insight into annealing parameters in tailoring the mechanical properties of a medium Mn steel

Songyang Jing et al.

Summary: This study found that the temperature-rise-period during intercritical annealing plays a significant role in controlling the mechanical properties of medium Mn steels. A longer temperature-rise-period leads to a more heterogeneous microstructure, resulting in improved yield strength and total elongation of the steel.
