Effect of austempering temperature on high cycle fatigue behaviour in nanostructured bainitic steels

Avanish Kumar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of three different austempering temperatures on the high cycle fatigue behavior of carbide-free nanostructured bainite. Lower austempering temperature led to increased yield strength, while NB350 showed significant strain hardening due to transformation induced plasticity, resulting in longer fatigue life compared to NB250 and NB300.

Effect of tempering temperature on monotonic and low-cycle fatigue properties of a new low-carbon martensitic steel

G. Yang et al.

Summary: The study investigated the relationship between tempering temperature and low cycle fatigue in new low-carbon martensitic steels. It was found that monotone mechanical properties decrease with higher tempering temperatures, accompanied by changes in microstructure. A fatigue life prediction model considering tempering temperature was proposed, indicating a decrease in fatigue damage capacity and an increase in the damage transition index. The established fatigue life model successfully predicts fatigue life at different tempering temperatures.

Effect of welding on microstructure and mechanical response of X100Q bainitic steel through nanoindentation, tensile, cyclic plasticity and fatigue characterisation

Ronan J. Devaney et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental characterization of fatigue at welded connections for the next-generation high-strength low-alloy offshore riser steel, X100Q, showing superior fatigue performance compared to X80 steel. Significant differences are demonstrated between parent material and simulated heat affected zone (HAZ) materials.

A dislocation mechanics constitutive model for effects of welding-induced microstructural transformation on cyclic plasticity and low-cycle fatigue for X100Q bainitic steel

Ronan J. Devaney et al.

Summary: This paper presents a physically-based cyclic viscoplasticity model to capture the influence of welding-induced microstructural transformation on the fatigue response of the bainitic high-strength low-alloy steel, X100Q. The study found that a refined bainitic block structure is the primary microstructural feature contributing to monotonic and cyclic strength in the materials, while the coarsening of the bainitic lath structure leads to cyclic softening behavior.

The fatigue properties, microstructural evolution and crack behaviors of low-carbon carbide-free bainitic steel during low-cycle fatigue

Summary: The fatigue lifetime of low-carbon bainitic steel increases with decreasing austempering temperature. During fatigue loading, retained austenite partially transforms into martensite, with the transformation amount increasing with total strain amplitude, impacting the fatigue lifetime.
