Evolution of the Zr42.5Cu42.5Al10Fe5 amorphous alloy structure during the HPT process

Summary: This paper analyzes the effect of severe plastic deformation on the structure, mechanical and thermal properties of a Zr42.5Cu42.5Al10Fe5 alloy, showing that high pressure torsion induces phase separation of an amorphous matrix and formation of nanocrystalline particles. The precipitation of nanocrystals leads to changes in the composition of the amorphous matrix, crystallization process and characteristic temperatures of the alloy, resulting in significant increase in material hardness.
