Hydrodynamic modeling effect analysis of a fully submerged tension leg concept integrating the DTU 10 MW offshore wind turbine

Ruiqi Hu et al.

Summary: Efficient and accurate hydrodynamic load estimation is important for the dynamic response analyses of large-scale offshore wind turbines. This study assesses the hydrodynamic modeling effects of a fully submerged tension leg platform (FSTLP) integrating a 10 MW wind turbine. The results show that the potential flow model with viscous drag force can provide reliable predictions of the dynamic responses.

Comparative study of mathematical models for mooring systems coupled with CFD

Changqing Jiang et al.

Summary: A numerical method coupling a Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes solver with quasi-static and dynamic mooring models was used and compared. Results showed that predictions of buoy motion amplitudes, especially in surge, were overpredicted based on the quasi-static model in irregular waves. Accurate evaluation in irregular waves, particularly when large translations occur, can only be achieved by accounting for dynamic loads on mooring lines.

Selection of appropriate numerical models for modelling the stresses in mooring chains

G. M. Gemilang et al.

Summary: Mooring chains are critical components for floating platforms, and failure can have catastrophic economic and environmental impacts. Research shows that mooring failures often occur earlier than expected, and there are variations in the accuracy of different methods used to predict failure mechanisms.
