Intelligent computational techniques in marine oil spill management: A critical review

Prediction of soil organic carbon and the C:N ratio on a national scale using machine learning and satellite data: A comparison between Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3 and Landsat-8 images

Summary: In this study, satellite sensors (Landsat-8, Sentinel-2, and Sentinel-3) were used with machine learning techniques to predict soil organic carbon content and carbon-to-nitrogen ratio in Switzerland. Results showed that models based on Landsat-8 and Sentinel-2 performed better in predicting SOC content, while Sentinel-3 performed better in predicting C:N ratio at coarse resolutions. The study also highlighted the importance of remote sensing variables in soil prediction models of various scales.

Detection of Oil Pollution Using SAR and Optical Remote Sensing Imagery: A Case Study of the Persian Gulf

Summary: In this study, Sentinel-1 SAR data and Sentinel-2 image were utilized for timely detection of oil slicks in the Persian Gulf. The area of oil pollution extracted from different data sources showed that object-based image analysis (OBIA) using optical data had better results than SAR data. This research demonstrates the applicability of remote sensing data for recognizing oil spill pollution with the use of Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 data.
