Spatiotemporal Evolution of Bed Configurations in Mixed Bedrock-Alluvial in Uniformly Curved Channels

Mamy Rija Andriamboavonjy et al.

Summary: River courses tend to be meandering rather than straight, and one common type of meandering is incision meandering discussed in river engineering. This study investigates bedrock incision under sediment bedload transport along curved channels by varying flow speed while keeping other parameters constant. The experiments in an annular flume reveal that the type of bedforms has a greater impact on bedrock incisions than rotation speed.

In-Situ Observation of Storm-Induced Wave-Supported Fluid Mud Occurrence in the Subaqueous Yellow River Delta

Xiaolei Liu et al.

Summary: Two comprehensive and long-term observation campaigns were conducted at the subaqueous Yellow River delta, revealing high suspended sediment concentration and wave-supported fluid mud activity. The factors influencing the generation and dissipation of wave-supported fluid mud were investigated, and the characteristics and velocity of the mud flow were estimated. This study also highlighted the frequent occurrence of wave-supported fluid mud events at the abandoned Yellow River delta and emphasized the significance of studying its roles in sediment transport and offshore engineering.

Sustainable ex-situ remediation of contaminated sediment: A review*

Yuying Zhang et al.

Summary: Routine waterway dredging activities generate large volumes of dredged sediment, posing a global challenge in remediating contaminated sediment. Sustainable ex-situ treatment technologies have been developed to transform sediment into construction materials. Proper selection and design of remediation technologies should consider factors such as cost, safety, environmental impacts, and social acceptability.

Study on the Rheological Behavior of a Model Clay Sediment

Yuan Lin et al.

Summary: Clay sediments, mainly composed of nano-sized, disk-shaped, and charged clay particles, exhibit complex interactions that control the rheological properties of the sediment. Experimental studies show that the yield stress decreases with increased water content, and the yield stress of laponite suspension first increases and then decreases with increasing salinity. The face-to-face repulsive electrostatic interaction between clay platelets is considered to dominate the yield behavior.

Dynamics of migrating sand dunes interacting with obstacles

Karol A. Bacik et al.

Summary: Through experimental study, it was found that the interaction between sand dunes and obstacles depends on the size and shape of the obstacle, which may result in the dunes either crossing over the obstacle or being trapped. The flow structure in the immediate vicinity of the obstacle plays a crucial role in determining the outcome of the dune-obstacle interaction.
