Microfluidic synthesis of manganese-alginate nanogels with self-supplying H2O2 capability for synergistic chemo/chemodynamic therapy and boosting anticancer immunity

Miao Su et al.

Summary: Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) is an interesting alternative for traditional cancer therapies, as it can kill cancer cells by converting endogenous hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into highly toxic hydroxyl radicals (.OH). Researchers explored the combination of doxorubicin (DOX) and manganese-alginate nanogel (DOX@Mn-Alg) with self-supplying H2O2 capability using a microfluidic chip. The DOX@Mn-Alg released DOX in a pH-responsive manner and improved CDT by supplying H2O2 within tumor cells. This approach demonstrated synergistic antitumor activity, T-1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging enhancement for cancer diagnosis, and potential for cancer immunotherapy.
