Serum Cholesteryl Ester Transfer Protein (CETP) and Sortilin (SORT) in Patients with Psoriasis with Relation to Systemic Treatment

Julia Nowowiejska et al.

Summary: Psoriasis is associated with metabolic disorders, and this study found a correlation between psoriasis and cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) and sortilin (SORT), which are involved in lipid metabolism. However, CETP and SORT cannot be used as individual biomarkers. CETP concentration may be investigated as a marker for liver side effects of acitretin treatment, while SORT could be considered as a new indicator of metabolically induced inflammation in psoriasis patients.

The Role of Phospholipid Transfer Protein in the Development of Atherosclerosis

Xian-Cheng Jiang et al.

Summary: PLTP activity plays a crucial role in influencing atherogenic and anti-atherogenic lipoprotein levels, with both deficiency and overexpression of PLTP having significant impacts on lipoprotein metabolism and atherogenesis. Despite reducing cholesterol efflux capacity, PLTP activity does not seem to affect macrophage reverse cholesterol transport in mice. Furthermore, PLTP activity is associated with metabolic syndrome, thrombosis, and inflammation, making it a potential target for the treatment of dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis.

Aberrations in Lipid Expression and Metabolism in Psoriasis

Julia Nowowiejska et al.

Summary: Psoriasis is a common skin disease affecting about 1%-3% of the general population, often accompanied by cardiometabolic disorders. Research indicates that lipid expression and metabolism disorders are more common in psoriatic patients, playing a significant role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis.

Human cholesteryl ester transfer protein lacks lipopolysaccharide transfer activity, but worsens inflammation and sepsis outcomes in mice

Alois Dusuel et al.

Summary: Despite lacking direct LPS binding and transfer activity, human CETP worsens sepsis outcomes in mice by altering the protective effects of plasma lipoproteins against endotoxemia, inflammation, and infection. Studies showed that CETP tended to reduce biliary excretion of LPS in vivo with lower plasma lipid levels and higher mortality rates in models of endotoxemia and sepsis. Additionally, CETP altered cytokine production of macrophages in vitro.
