Mass transfer of toluene in a series of metal-organic frameworks: molecular clusters inside the nanopores cause slow and step-like release

Chun Li et al.

Summary: The intermolecular guest-guest interaction, controlled by the pore size of Zr-based MOFs, has a significant impact on the release kinetics. Molecular clusters, most likely toluene dimers, form and their break-up becomes rate-limiting during the desorption process, resulting in a step-like desorption kinetics. Temperature-dependent experiments show that the release rates are independent of temperature at the same toluene loadings, and the activation energy for release coincides with the binding energy of a toluene dimer.

Photo-Isomerization Kinetics of Azobenzene Containing Surfactant Conjugated with Polyelectrolyte

Anjali Sharma et al.

Summary: Ionic complexation of azobenzene-containing surfactants with oppositely charged soft objects enables photo-responsive changes in size, shape, and surface energy. The photo-isomerization of the cationic surfactant is slower in polymer complexes compared to being dissolved in aqueous solution, likely due to the formation of surfactant aggregates near polyelectrolyte chains, inhibiting the kinetics.

Paving the Way to the First Functional Fulgide@MOF Hybrid Materials

Clemens Eichler et al.

Summary: The research presents hybrid materials consisting of the photoswitchable fulgide Aberchrome 670 and porous metal-organic frameworks with varying polarity, exhibiting P-type photochromism. The embedding of Aberchrome 670 in MOFs enabled tracing of IR signatures, which corresponded with quantum-chemical calculations, highlighting the significance of the switch@MOF research field in bridging basic and applied research.
