Enhanced removal of Cr(VI) from aqueous solution by stabilized nanoscale zero valent iron and copper bimetal intercalated montmorillonite

Yin Wang et al.

Summary: The study found that the MMT-nFe(0)/Cu-0 nanocomposite can effectively remove Cr(VI) pollutants, exhibiting good dispersibility and reduction activity, and preventing the release of metal ions. This composite material not only has advantages in reaction rate, but also has good environmental friendliness.

Polyvalent Metal Ion Promoted Adsorption of DNA Oligonucleotides by Montmorillonite

Zhen Wang et al.

Summary: The researchers conducted a fundamental adsorption study and found that polyvalent metal ions promoted DNA adsorption on MMT via a cation bridge model. Among them, Ce3+ and Cu2+ reversed the surface charge of MMT to positive, and Cu2+- and Ce3+-mediated adsorption mainly depended on the DNA phosphate backbone, while Ni2+ and Zn2+ interacted with the backbone phosphate groups and adenine bases of DNA.

Exfoliation of montmorillonite using a simple and low-cost heating/gasifying method

Renjie Liu et al.

Summary: By using a simple and low-cost heating/gasifying method, montmorillonite (MMT) can be successfully exfoliated, with the best results achieved at a heating temperature of 100 degrees Celsius and under three gasification cycles. This method shows great potential for large-scale production of exfoliated MMT nanosheets as additives for ceramic substrates and membrane technology.
