Isothermal Titration Calorimetry Directly Measures the Selective Swelling of Block Copolymer Vesicles in the Presence of Organic Acid

Qiuya Zhang et al.

Summary: This study compared the selective swelling of polystyrene-block-poly(2-vinylpyridine) vesicles in the presence of different acids and found that the hydrogen bonding interaction between tartaric acid/malic acid and the vesicles limits their swelling, which depends on the molecular structures of the acids and the polymer.

Ordered Mesoporous Microcapsules from Double Emulsion Confined Block Copolymer Self-Assembly

Joerg G. Werner et al.

Summary: Polymeric microcapsules with mesoporous shells containing uniformly sized nanopores are achieved through self-assembly of amphiphilic block copolymers with a selective porogen in double emulsion drops. The microcapsules can withstand harsh conditions and exhibit pH-responsive permeability to polymeric solutes, showing potential for tunable macromolecular separation and purification as a filtration medium. Further control over shell permeability is achieved through a dual-phase separation method to fabricate microcapsules with hierarchically porous shells.

Halogen-Bond Mediated 3D Confined Assembly of AB Diblock Copolymer and C Homopolymer Blends

Xihuang Zheng et al.

Summary: Halogen-bond driven assembly in emulsion droplets enables order-order phase transitions by forming donor-acceptor pairs, leading to various nanostructures. Tuning the content of halogen donor and choice of surfactant allows for tailored morphology transitions, creating mesoporous microparticles, disassembled nanodiscs, and superaggregates. These results will inspire further exploration of halogen bonding interactions in emulsion droplets and beyond.

Recent Progress in Polymer Cubosomes and Hexosomes

Hui Chen et al.

Summary: Polymer cubosomes and hexosomes are polymer colloids with inverted liquid crystal phases, featuring uniform, tunable, and highly ordered porous structures that offer advantages over micelles and vesicles, including high loading volumes, large specific surface areas, and good stability. The ability to design these polymer colloids with various adjustable physical and chemical properties through polymer chemistry makes them attractive for potential applications in materials science and nanotechnology.

Fluorescent polymer cubosomes and hexosomes with aggregation-induced emission

Hui Chen et al.

Summary: The study focuses on preparing fluorescent polymer cubosomes and hexosomes with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) by synthesizing amphiphilic block copolymers in dioxane/water and THF/water systems. The ordered internal structures were studied using electron microscopy and X-ray scattering technique. The research not only inspires the design of novel building blocks for functional cubosomes and hexosomes, but also presents the first AIE fluorescent polymer cubosome and hexosome with potential applications in bio-related fields.
