A multidisciplinary approach for landslide residual risk assessment: the Pomarico landslide (Basilicata Region, Southern Italy) case study

Angela Perrone et al.

Summary: This study employed various geophysical methods to investigate a large landslide in Pomarico, Italy, revealing features of the landslide, stratigraphic contacts, and stability changes. The results showed the presence of multiple degraded scarps and an anthropic surface layer within the stratification. Additionally, natural and anthropogenic caves were identified in the sand layers.

Monitoring and analysis of the exceptional displacements affecting debris at the top of a highly disaggregated rockslide

Tommaso Carla et al.

Summary: The activity of large rockslides is influenced by various factors, with continued deformation leading to widespread degradation of the slide mass. This study provides updated insights on the Ruinon rockslide based on over a decade of monitoring, revealing that the upper debris moves significantly faster than the substrate and is also impacted by precipitation events.

Landslide geometry and activity in Villa de la Independencia (Bolivia) revealed by InSAR and seismic noise measurements

Chuang Song et al.

Summary: This study integrated Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) measurements with seismic noise in situ measurements to analyze the surface and subsurface characteristics of a complex slow-moving landslide in Bolivia. Results indicated that the landslide exhibited a compound movement with three different sliding blocks, further evidenced by seismic noise measurements. This study showcased the potential of combining InSAR and seismic noise techniques to understand landslide mechanisms from ground to subsurface.

Probability Methods for Stability Design of Open Pit Rock Slopes: An Overview

Musah Abdulai et al.

Summary: Rock slope stability analysis can be performed using deterministic and probabilistic approaches, with the latter offering a more rational way to quantify risk by considering input variable uncertainty. Various methods such as Monte Carlo simulation, point estimate method, and response surface method are used to evaluate the probability of failure in rock slope stability analysis. Although these methods may be complex, they provide a more comprehensive definition of risk in slope stability analysis.
