Extracellular enzyme stoichiometry reveals the carbon and phosphorus limitations of microbial metabolisms in the rhizosphere and bulk soils in alpine ecosystems

Yongxing Cui et al.

Summary: This study reveals the characteristics of microbial nutrient limitation in alpine ecosystems and identifies the direct regulation of soil nutrient stoichiometry on these limitations. Higher C and P limitations at high altitudes compared to low altitudes are mainly attributed to changes in soil temperature and moisture along the altitudinal gradient. The influences of vegetation on microbial metabolisms could decrease under the scenario of global warming.

Organic substitutions aggravated microbial nitrogen limitation and decreased nitrogen-cycling gene abundances in a three-year greenhouse vegetable field

Haojie Shen et al.

Summary: Partially substituting chemical fertilizer with organic fertilizer in intensive greenhouse vegetable ecosystem can aggravate microbial N limitation and affect N-cycling gene abundances. Organic substitution can improve crop yield and reduce microbial N limitation.

Soil nitrogen-hydrolyzing enzyme activity and stoichiometry following a subtropical land use change

Qian Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that afforestation and cultivation can increase soil N-hydrolyzing enzyme activities and accelerate nitrogen turnover rates, while soil extracellular enzyme activities are also influenced by seasonal variations. Different land use types show varying levels of sensitivity to nutrient limitation.
