No evidence in support of arthroscopic partial meniscectomy in adults with degenerative and nonobstructive meniscal symptoms: a level I evidence-based systematic review

Filippo Migliorini et al.

Summary: This systematic review compared the efficacy of arthroscopic partial meniscectomy (APM) with structured physical therapy (PT) in middle-aged patients with symptomatic meniscal damages. The results showed that there was no significant difference in functional PROMs, clinical PROMs, pain, quality of life, physical performance measures, and OA progression between APM and PT. Further research is needed to investigate the long-term effects and optimal indications and outcomes of APM and PT.

ICRS scores worsen between 2-year short term and 5-year mid-term follow-up after transtibial medial meniscus root repair despite maintained functional outcomes

Daniel J. Kaplan et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the mid-term results of posterior medial meniscal root tear (PMMRT) repair through functional outcome scores and MRI, finding that patients treated with the transtibial suture pullout technique maintained clinical outcome improvements at 5-year follow-up, but with widespread extrusion and worsening femoral and tibial chondral disease progression.

Degenerative Meniscus in Knee Osteoarthritis: From Pathology to Treatment

Nobutake Ozeki et al.

Summary: Knee osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease that can be initiated and progressed by meniscal tears. Surgical repair of meniscal tears leads to better clinical outcomes in the long term.

Treatment strategies for meniscal lesions: from past to prospective therapeutics

Elhussein E. Mahmoud et al.

Summary: Menisci play a crucial role in knee joint function and stability. However, repairing meniscal tears is challenging due to the lack of blood supply. This review discusses the available treatment options for meniscal tears, including surgical procedures and tissue engineering approaches. The use of exogenous and/or autologous growth factors, scaffolds, cell-based therapy, and miRNA-210 are explored as potential strategies for meniscal repair.

Summary: This study detailed the precise topography of isolated meniscal tears in stable knee and found that tear pattern correlates with cartilage lesion in the tibiofemoral compartment, with a younger age of onset. The study highlighted the importance of using the ISAKOS questionnaire.
