The RNA helicases DDX5 and DDX17 facilitate neural differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells NTERA2

Praewa Suthapot et al.

Summary: This study reveals the role of DDX5 and DDX17 in neurogenesis and neural differentiation of hPSCs. These RNA helicases play a critical role in regulating the transcriptional expression of neurogenesis-related genes, facilitating early neural differentiation of hPSCs and generating neurospheres. They are also essential for the differentiation of hPSCs into neural progenitors and mature neurons.

Urine Single-Cell RNA Sequencing in Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis Reveals Inflammatory Signatures

Khun Zaw Latt et al.

Summary: This study used single-cell RNA sequencing to analyze the gene expression of urine cells from patients with focal segmental glomerular sclerosis (FSGS), and investigated their association with kidney diseases. The results showed the presence of monocyte subsets and renal epithelial cells in the urine, and suggested that urine cell profiling could be used as a diagnostic and prognostic tool for nephrotic syndrome. This research contributes to the development of novel biomarkers and personalized therapies for immune cells and podocytes.

Single-Cell RNA Sequencing of Urinary Cells Reveals Distinct Cellular Diversity in COVID-19?Associated AKI

Matthew D. Cheung et al.

Summary: This study used single-cell RNA sequencing to investigate cellular alterations associated with AKI in COVID-19 patients. The researchers found differences in cellular composition and gene expression between COVID-19 patients with and without AKI. They also discovered evidence of direct infection of urinary bladder cells by SARS-CoV-2. The findings suggest that urinary sediment is a valuable resource for studying the pathophysiology and cellular alterations in kidney diseases.

Signatures of plasticity, metastasis, and immunosuppression in an atlas of human small cell lung cancer

Joseph M. Chan et al.

Summary: The study reveals a greater tumor diversity in SCLC compared to lung adenocarcinoma, with a PLCG2-high SCLC phenotype showing stem-like, pro-metastatic features and predicting worse overall survival. Furthermore, SCLC demonstrates greater immune sequestration and less immune infiltration than lung adenocarcinoma.

PI3K/AKT activation attenuates acute kidney injury following liver transplantation by inducing FoxO3a nuclear export and deacetylation

Fanbing Meng et al.

Summary: The study showed that activation of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway can attenuate post-AOLT AKI by regulating the expression of apoptosis-related proteins and facilitating cell deacetylation to protect renal function.

Urinary Single-Cell Profiling Captures the Cellular Diversity of the Kidney

Amin Abedini et al.

Summary: Microscopic analysis of urine sediment is commonly used in nephrology for diagnostic purposes. Single-cell transcriptomic analysis revealed that almost all kidney cell types can be identified in urine, with subject-specific and relatively stable cell-type composition. Urinary cells show similarities in gene expression with kidney and bladder cells.

Rasa Elmentaite et al.

Summary: The study analyzes cells from various stages of human development along the intestinal tract, revealing transcriptionally distinct BEST4 epithelial cells and implicating IgG sensing as a function of tuft cells. It also describes neural cell populations in the developing enteric nervous system and identifies key players in the formation of lymphoid tissue in early human development and inflammatory bowel disease.

Ferroptotic stress promotes the accumulation of pro-inflammatory proximal tubular cells in maladaptive renal repair

Shintaro Ide et al.

Summary: The study reveals that proximal tubular cells develop a pro-inflammatory state following injury, which can lead to persistent inflammation and fibrosis. After mild injury, these inflammatory PT cells transiently appear and make the cells vulnerable to ferroptotic stress; while after severe injury, they accumulate and enhance inflammation and fibrosis.
