Conjugation of VEGFR1/R2-targeting peptide with gold nanoparticles to enhance antiangiogenic and antitumoral activity

Pegah Zanjanchi et al.

Summary: Based on previous research, this study conjugated VGB3 to gold nanoparticles (GNPs) and found that the resulting GNP-VGB3 can more effectively inhibit tumor growth and metastasis, and increase animal survival without causing weight loss. The superior antitumor effects of GNP-VGB3 are attributed to its durable targeting of VEGFR1 and VEGFR2, thereby inhibiting multiple signaling pathways in tumor tissues.

Disentangling the association between retinal non-perfusion and anti-VEGF agents in diabetic retinopathy

Irini Chatziralli et al.

Summary: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a common microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus, caused by chronic hyperglycemia leading to biochemical and structural changes in retinal blood vessels. While anti-VEGF agents have shown some improvement in DR severity, they cannot reverse retinal ischemia. However, studies on the impact of these agents on retinal non-perfusion have yielded controversial results, indicating the need for further research.

Serum Hepcidin, the Hepcidin/Ferritin Ratio and the Risk of Type 2 Diabetes: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Nahid Karamzad et al.

Summary: The meta-analysis did not find a significant difference in serum hepcidin levels between patients with type 2 diabetes and healthy controls, but the hepcidin/ferritin ratio was found to be negatively associated with the risk of type 2 diabetes. Publication bias was not found for the associations serum hepcidin or the hepcidin/ferritin ratio had with type 2 diabetes.

Altered Expression of Angiogenic Biomarkers in Pregnancy Associated with Gestational Diabetes

Ebtisam Al-Ofi et al.

Summary: The study revealed significant alterations in angiogenic biomarkers in pregnant women with GDM. Compared to the control group, levels of VEGF-A, endoglin, endothelin-1, and angiopoietin-2 were significantly higher in GDM, while G-CSF levels showed a non-significant increase. Additionally, there were positive correlations among various angiogenic factors in GDM patients.

Cinnamaldehyde mitigates placental vascular dysfunction of gestational diabetes and protects from the associated fetal hypoxia by modulating placental angiogenesis, metabolic activity and oxidative stress

Ahmed Hosni et al.

Summary: The research explored the efficacy of cinnamaldehyde and glyburide/metformin-HCl for treating gestational diabetes mellitus, finding that cinnamaldehyde substantially protected against placental vasculopathy and fetal hypoxia, while glyburide/metformin-HCl did not effectively restore impaired functionality, demonstrating the vital role of the placenta in developing efficient medications for GDM.

SUCNR1 Is Expressed in Human Placenta and Mediates Angiogenesis: Significance in Gestational Diabetes

Reham Atallah et al.

Summary: Placental hypervascularization has been associated with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), and the succinate-SUCNR1 axis may play a role in this process. Succinate levels were higher in placental tissue from women with GDM, along with upregulated SUCNR1 expression. In vitro experiments showed that succinate promoted angiogenesis in endothelial cells, while knockdown of SUCNR1 suppressed VEGF expression and migration in response to succinate.

CXCL1 stimulates decidual angiogenesis via the VEGF-A pathway during the first trimester of pregnancy

Chao Ma et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the essential role of CXCL1 in decidual angiogenesis, which is mediated through promoting endothelial cell proliferation and migration, and modulating the expression of VEGF-A. Experimental validation has confirmed the mechanism by which CXCL1 functions in angiogenesis.

Summary: Maternal obesity and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) are increasing globally, posing risks for both mothers and children. This study investigated the expression of antioxidant and autophagy-related genes in obese pregnant women with and without GDM. Results showed alterations in gene expression, suggesting a potential role of placental autophagy in metabolic pregnancy disorders and diabetes treatment.

Summary: VEGF-A plays a central role in tumor angiogenesis and is also an immunosuppressive factor, modulating immune cells and affecting regulatory T cells. Anti-angiogenic agents targeting VEGF-A/VEGFR can limit tumor-induced immunosuppression and enhance treatment efficacy.
