Thermal and evolved gas analyses on Michael addition oligomers of acrylic acid

Michiya Fujita et al.

Summary: The Michael addition reaction of acrylic acid causes thermal runaway, leading to explosion and fire accidents. The thermal analysis showed that MAO can polymerize exothermically at temperatures above 180 degrees C and decompose into various compounds at temperatures above 195 degrees C.

Thermal degradation kinetic of poly(acrylamide-co-sodium acrylate) hydrogel applying isoconversional methods

F. B. Santos et al.

Summary: This article reports the synthesis, characterization, and thermal degradation kinetics of a hydrogel made of poly(acrylamide-co-sodium acrylate), which could be used to remove water from liquid fuels. The hydrogel showed high thermal stability and a swelling capacity of 105.68 (g water/g dry hydrogel) in distilled water. Experimental values obtained in the study were compared with different models and results showed that the Kissinger method exhibited the best performance in describing the activation energy values.

Kinetic analysis of the spontaneous thermal polymerization of acrylic acid

Michiya Fujita et al.

Summary: This study conducted experiments and model analysis to investigate the thermal polymerization and Michael addition reaction of acrylic acid, obtaining kinetic parameters for the MAR. It was found that the rate constant for the MAR was linearly proportional to temperature, and using a modified n-order reaction model accurately predicted the experimental results.
