Experimental investigation of premixed combustion and thermal efficiency in a porous heating burner

Mohammad Omidi et al.

Summary: In this research, thermal efficiency and pollutant emissions of a metallic porous burner with a heat exchanger were experimentally investigated. Results showed that the best performance of the burner occurred at an equivalence ratio of 0.8, with an increase in thermal power leading to an increase in emitted nitric oxide (NOx). Carbon monoxide (CO) emissions were lowest at an equivalence ratio of 0.8. Comparisons with a free flame burner showed a 5.8% improvement in thermal efficiency, along with reduced NOx emissions but higher CO emissions in the porous burner.

Unsteady ultra-lean combustion of methane and biogas in a porous burner - An experimental study

Rabeeah Habib et al.

Summary: The study investigates the response of ultra-lean flames stabilized in a porous burner to fluctuations imposed on the fuel flow rate, showing that the flame oscillations qualitatively follow the temporal variation in fuel flow but with higher amplitudes for methane compared to biogas. Exposure of the burner to fuel fluctuations for a long time leads to flame destabilization, while stable combustion can be achieved for methane mixtures within certain amplitude ranges. The study also highlights the significant effects of unsteady heat transfer in porous media on flame position fluctuations.

Experimental investigation of flame stability in the premixed propane-air combustion in two-section porous media burner

V. Bubnovich et al.

Summary: Experimental investigation was conducted on combustion characteristics and flame stabilization within a two-layer porous media burner. The combustion wave propagation rate was found to increase with increased inlet velocity and decreased equivalence ratio. A porous burner with flame stabilized between two porous ceramics was successfully built, showing complete combustion with low CO and NOx emissions.

CO emissions and temperature analysis from an experimental and numerical study of partially premixed methane flames impinging onto a cooking pot

Saul Laguillo et al.

Summary: The study aims to investigate the CO formation and its relationship with flame structure during natural gas burning in simplified burners. Experimental tests and numerical modeling were conducted to analyze the influence of burner-to-pot distance, flame thermal power, primary aeration, and inside-pot water temperature on CO emissions and thermal efficiency. The results show that primary aeration or wall temperature increases can reduce CO emissions, while changes in burner-to-pot distance or flame thermal power may lead to non-monotonic trends.
