Enhanced photocatalytic reduction of hexavalent chromium ions over S-Scheme based 2D MoS2-supported TiO2 heterojunctions under visible light

Ahmed Shawky et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the fabrication of visible-light active nanocomposites composed of two-dimensional (2D) MoS2 decorating mesoporous TiO2 as an efficient material for the complete photoreduction of Hexavalent chromium ions Cr(VI) to less toxic trivalent state (Cr(III)). The MoS2 supported TiO2 photocatalysts have the potential for future research in the removal of highly toxic heavy metals by photoreduction under visible light.

Cobalt ferrite-modified sol-gel synthesized ZnO nanoplatelets for fast and bearable visible light remediation of ciprofloxacin in water

Ahmed Shawky et al.

Summary: Metal oxide photocatalysts are efficient and environmentally-friendly tools, but they face challenges in practical applications. In this study, sol-gel synthesis was used to create CFO/ZnO nanoheterojunctions, with the addition of CFO improving the performance of ZnO. The formed nanoheterojunctions exhibited high visible light activity and showed excellent degradation efficiency for ciprofloxacin. This research suggests that nanoheterojunction oxides have great potential for the destruction of pharmaceutical wastes under visible-light illumination.

Promoted visible-light photocatalytic reduction of Hg2+ over CuAl2O4-decorated g-C3N4 nanoheterojunctions synthesized by solution process

Hind Alshaikh et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the photocatalytic reduction of mercury (II) ions (Hg2+) using CuAl2O4-decorated g-C3N4 heterojunction photocatalyst. The 3.0% CuAl2O4/g-C3N4 showed superior photocatalytic activity compared to pure g-C3N4 and CuAl2O4 under visible light irradiation. The enhanced performance is attributed to confined bandgap and suppression of photogenerated carrier recombination in this novel heterojunction design.
