Generating 77 T using a portable pulse magnet for single-shot quantum beam experiments

Akihiko Ikeda et al.

Summary: We developed a portable system capable of generating high-intensity pulsed magnetic fields. The system utilizes the single-turn coil method and enables single-shot experiments combined with novel quantum beam technologies. We successfully conducted a single-shot X-ray diffraction experiment under a 65 T magnetic field and proposed the possibility of upgrading the system to generate 100 T.

Orbital Effects in Solids: Basics, Recent Progress, and Opportunities

Daniel Khomskii et al.

Summary: The paragraph discusses the complex interactions of different degrees of freedom in transition metal compounds, highlighting the unique phenomena observed in systems with orbital degeneracy and emphasizing novel quantum effects. It also explores the reduction of effective dimensionality in systems with orbital degrees of freedom and the role of relativistic spin-orbit interaction in relation to traditional Jahn-Teller physics. Special attention is paid to discussing novel quantum effects throughout the review.

Magnetoconduction in the Correlated Semiconductor FeSi in Ultrastrong Magnetic Fields up to a Semiconductor-to-Metal Transition

D. Nakamura et al.

Summary: The magnetoresistance of the correlated narrow-gap semiconductor FeSi was investigated in magnetic fields up to 500 T, showing a sharp kink around 270 T, indicating the closing of the hybridization gap. The transition field from semiconductor to metal was found to be almost independent of temperature in the temperature-magnetic field phase diagram.

Basic aspects of the metal -insulator transition in vanadium dioxide VO2: a critical review

Jean-Paul Pouget

Summary: Vanadium dioxide undergoes a first-order metal to insulator transition at 340 K, causing controversy in the scientific community for over fifty years. Recent research has renewed interest in the chemical and physical properties of VO2 and its alloys. The study reviews the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of VO2, emphasizing the role of electron-electron interactions and structural fluctuations in the MIT mechanism.
