The power method and beyond

Summary: This paper introduces a parameterized power method for computing the dominant eigenvalue and eigenvector of a real and symmetric matrix, which includes nonstationary Richardson methods and gradient descent methods. Theoretical analysis and numerical experiments demonstrate that the parameterized power methods can be more effective than the traditional power method with appropriately chosen iteration parameters.
