Breaking through the dynamic strength-ductility trade-off in TiB reinforced Ti composites by incorporation of graphene nanoplatelets

Liang Liu et al.

Summary: Adjusting the three-dimensional reinforcement configuration by incorporating graphene nanoplatelets can overcome the strength-ductility incompatibility in titanium matrix composites. The addition of graphene nanoplatelets enhances both the dynamic strength and plasticity of the materials, while delaying the formation of adiabatic shear bands.

Comparisons of the Microstructure and Magnetic Properties of Anisotropic NdFeB Magnets Prepared by Hot Pressing and Spark Plasma Sintering

Xiang Li et al.

Summary: NdFeB hot-pressed and hot-deformed magnets were prepared by hot-pressed (HP) sintering and spark plasma sintering (SPS). The effects of different sintering mechanisms on the microstructure of the magnets were studied, revealing that the hot-deformed magnets prepared by HP have superior microstructural characteristics compared to those prepared by SPS, leading to significantly better comprehensive magnetic properties.

Summary: This study aimed to enhance the fracture toughness of Si3N4 ceramics by adding TiC and Mo. The addition of TiC improved the hardness by inhibiting phase transformation and grain refinement. Meanwhile, Mo promoted phase transformation and formed molybdenum silicide, leading to improved fracture toughness. The Si3N4 composites with 8 wt% TiC and 8 wt% Mo exhibited optimal properties.

Transparent AlON ceramics by nitriding combustion synthesis precursors and pressureless sintering method

Yiming Zhang et al.

Summary: Fine AION powders with high sintering activities were synthesized, and high-transmittance AlON ceramics were achieved. The influences of different aluminum sources on precursors and nitride-functionalized products were studied. Al(NO3)(3) was found to be the most beneficial aluminum source for the preparation of active precursors and single-phase AlON powders. This research provides valuable reference for rapid preparation of AlON powders and transparent ceramics.

Direct achievement of ultra-high strength and good ductility for high Co-Ni secondary hardening steel by combining spark plasma sintering and deformation

Xianyu Li et al.

Summary: By combining spark plasma sintering and deformation, ultra-high strength steel with good ductility was successfully fabricated in this study. The martensite matrix produced by a distinctive mechanism in spark plasma sintering resulted in ultra-high strength of the specimens, while good ductility was observed in the specimens due to the gradual closing of micro-pores during SPS compression. The high Co-Ni steel produced achieved ultra-high strength and good ductility directly without the need for complicated traditional heat treatment processes.

Summary: The study investigates the impact of technological process on the final properties of lead-free BFN ceramic materials. Results show that longer MA duration times can increase the perovskite phase content, while 40 hours of milling significantly improves the microstructure of BFN ceramics. The BFN(x)MA materials exhibit high electric permittivity values for energy storage applications and negative dielectric properties for shield elements against electromagnetic radiation.
